Who Wore it Best: Kim K. Vs. Gwyneth Paltrow

Two celebs, one dress, and one winner. Who wore this Pucci two-piece dress best? These two stars could have more different fashion senses. Kim K. a beautiful curvy woman enjoys embracing her curves, while Gwyneth P. enjoys lovely elegant pieces. Kim wore the dress with a longer skirt and statement earrings. She kept the hair back which added more focus onto the dress than her hair, nice touch! Gwyneth had a more cropped top and wore heels with metallic toe’s to add a spice of shimmer under the long dress. The winner? Gwyneth Paltrow. Personally, I love when curvy women embrace their body’s, but Kim K. should have altered the skirt so it wasn’t so long. Maybe it is just the picture but it looks like she is stepping on the back! Gwyneth’s more cropped top shows her toned physique and the minimal jewelry correlates with wearing her hair down.

What’s in My Purse?

I thought I’d share a few of my essentials I lug around with me on a daily basis. My purse is constantly bursting at the seams, but when I remove all of the receipts, excess change, and random trinkets (I’m not sure who really needs five pens, a pair of flats, three necklaces, and old magazines), it suddenly becomes much more manageable. I didn’t include my school books, but I typically carry 1-2 condensed forms of my textbooks along with me. Let’s begin!

1. Valentino wallet, a delightful birthday gift from a good friend. 2. iPad + cover, I typically bring this for school and WordPress purposes. 3. Elizabeth and James sunglasses. 4. Bright Ideas Notepad + Pen. 5. Prada business card holder, accompanied with the wallet. 6. iPhone + Kate Spade case. 7. Trident Splash gum. 8. Planet Blue hair ties which are my favorite hair ties because they don’t rip your hair and look amazing in the hair and as bracelets. 9. Kind Almond & Coconut Bar. 10. Post-its notes. 11. Headphones. 12. Target keychain. 13. Band-Aids. 14. Forever 21 cosmetic case. 15. Products (from left to right): Urban Decay Kohl Liner, Issey Miyake roll-on perfume, Korres lip butter, Time Balm concealer, Nail file, Oribe serum (sample), Nars illuminator, Rosebud Salve, Estee Lauder Lipgloss. I typically switch out perfumes seasonally. I have been obsessed with Marc Jacobs Daisy spray-perfume lately,

Weekly Fashion Update~ Vintage Flannels for Fall!

I love the laid-back and cozy feel of flannels for fall and winter.  They are an ideal layering piece, and there are so many new ways to wear them this upcoming season. Even though there’s nothing better than a classic go-to fall outfit of jeans, flannel, and boots, today’s flannels can be dressed up with blazers, rhinestone necklaces, or maxi skirts. Whether you mix them with other prints, dress them up, or go for classic 90s grunge, there’s no going wrong with a classic plaid flannel. Let’s begin!

Flannels look adorable peeking out from under a sweater for a super preppy look. Layering is perfect for the fall because it allows you to stay fashionable and warm.

Pile on the jewelry with your flannel to make even the most casual outfit more eye-catching. The touch of a wedge adds more gleam to relaxed jeans and an over-sized flannel.

Flannel + maxi: you will feel like you are in your pajamas but you will still look so stylish! A solid black maxi is a staple because it can be matched with any pattern.

Love the mix of hard and soft with flannels, leather, and studs.

Flannels also look great buttoned up under a blazer!  The rolled up jeans and chunky boots add a bit of edge to this otherwise super polished outfit.

Updated 90s grunge look- tie a flannel around your waist for that touch of pattern and laid-back style.

Product Battles: Stila Primer vs. Almay Primer

Today I will be trying something different! I am introducing Product Battles where I will be comparing high-end beauty products vs. drugstore products to see which one is truly worth the money. The products being challenged will be nearly exact in formulas, but not in cost. The first Product Battle will be the Stila One Step Corrector Primer and the Almay Smart Shade Primer. Let’s begin!

The Stila Primer costs $36.00 and is a Primer that is a blend of green, white, and peach. The medley of colors is supposed to reduce redness and make your complexion clearer. It doesn’t contain Salylic Acid or anything that would actually work on blemishes.

It comes out looking like this and is semi-thick and mainly a green color than the white or peach. After a day of wearing it, it didn’t really correct anything but did a great job as a primer. It felt really light on my skin and did a good job, but it is also $36.00 for a primer that didn’t correct like it was supposed to.

The battling product is the Almay Smart Shade Primer and if you recall I actually referred to this in my Flawless Foundation Routine. It costs $9.99 and is a blend of a green and purple.

The solution comes out as a even blend of the two colors and is a bit more liquidy than the Stila. It blends in really evenly though, especially with the dark purple. After a day of wearing it, it has the same amount of primer powers as the Stila Primer. I usually wear my primer and foundation combo for 8+ hours, so they are both getting tested for long wear.

The product that won this was the Almay Smart Shade Primer! The mixture was really evenly blended and light weight throughout the day. The Stila Primer is still a great primer and will be used up, but the price and thickness took points off. Comment below if you have any specific products you would like me to do a Product Battle on!

My Nightly Beauty Routine!

Usually, I do this same infamous routine every night. It consists of fully removing all makeup, prepping my skin, cleansing, and moisturization. Some nights I may add a natural face mask or a gentle teeth whitener. This process does not include my shower though. I like to fill my evenings with relaxing music and good products. Let’s begin!

To begin, I take off both my eye makeup and face makeup with Clean & Clear Facial Cleansing Wipes. They are oil-free and do a great job of fully removing all makeup. I don’t typically use liquid makeup remover unless I have a lot of eye makeup, for example liquid eyeliner. If I have lipstick, I will make sure to remove all of it fully so that it doesn’t stain my lips overnight.

For my face I use the Dermalogica Oil/Normal Skin Care Kit. It can be purchased at Ulta and Sephora and comes in various sets according to your skin type. Within the stores there are skin-matchers who test your skin for free to find the perfect kit for you. Within it comes a Special Cleansing Gel, Multi-Active Toner, Skin Prep Scrub, Active Moist, and Total Eye Care. First, I scrub the Skin Prep Scrub with clean hands all over my face to remove any excess dirt or makeup from the day. I wash it off with a warm wash cloth and use my facial brush the gently apply the Special Cleansing Gel. I use a Face Secrets facial brush that I got from Sally’s Beauty Supply for less than $3.00. I rinse that off with the same warm rag and spritz my face with the Multi-Active Toner. While that dries I brush my teeth and then apply the Active Moist moisturizer.

Next, I apply Vaseline on my lips and eyelashes, Massaging Vaseline helps my eyelashes to grow longer and thicker. Every other night I will apply a hair mask to my hair. Lately, I haven’t found the perfect hair mask so if you have any recommendations comment down below.

Before bed, I usually french braid my hair down. In the morning when I undo the braid I will have big voluminous curls that were heat-free. If I want to wear my hair straight tomorrow, I will straighten it in the evening so that I don’t have to waste time in the morning straightening it. This process saves me tons of time in the morning.

After all of these facial steps, I lay in bed and apply Organix Coconut Milk & Hibiscus lotion. This lotion smells like the Carribean with a gentle scent of coconuts. I also like the Organix lotion with Cherry Blossom and Rice Milk. I apply this to my arms, legs, feet, and hands. This product isn’t greasy and dries quickly. I prefer lotions that dry quickly because they don’t leave my hands slippery.

And after a long day, I like to unwind with Tazo Calm Tea and either a good book or some good TV. With my doggies by my side, I know it will be a relaxing night!

Homemade Honey & Sugar Facial Scrub!

Glowing clear skin! It’s what we all crave, yet only few have naturally. Thankfully, this face scrub made of only honey and sugar cleans out the dirt from your pores and hydrates your skin. You can use this as a face scrub, or even a body scrub. It is best to fully exfoliate with this mixture 2-3 times per week. Mixing this up, putting it in the jar, and placing in the fridge is perfect to preserve the scrub. Let’s begin!

First pour a little more than a quarter size amount of honey into a small dish. Depending on the size of the area where it should be applied. Just regular honey is best. It doesn’t have to be 100% pure, just don’t use a honey that has something extra mixed into it.

Pour equal amounts of sugar into the mixture. In this picture it is exaggerated and if you put that much into the mixture it will most likely turn solid and be useless. Equal or even a little less than equal is great.

Scrub this mixture gently all over your face and especially in problem areas. Grab those cucumbers for the eyes and keep this on for 3-5 minutes to really soak into your pores. Massaging this scrub in little circles on your face will get the blood flow moving and keep you absolutely relaxed. This honey and sugar treatment is perfect for troubled skin because the sugar exfoliates and dries up any blemishes while the honey moisturizes your skin. Your face will be glowing after this. Which is perfect for keeping that summer glow in the upcoming fall months!

What’s In My School Bag & Tips For School Success

To finish up my back-to-school series of posts, I thought I would show you what is exactly inside my backpack for college. Someone actually requested this via Twitter. I usually carry general items so this could even work for someone who is in high school or just wants to revamp their purse. I will also attach some tips and tricks that will lead you on the path of organization and success for the upcoming school year. Let’s begin!

jloj

I got this backpack from Forever 21 and I probably won’t use it again this year but I just prefer plain backpacks. First, I will start with the hefty objects and they are my books. Some classes make you bring certain books to class so make sure you have a backpack that has enough space. You don’t need 20 million folders. Just bring the things you know you will use. If you find school to be difficult, then here is your tip: buy a planner! I have one that my school hands out yearly at orientation and it has the holidays listed, the rules, and any cool information. Bring your school I.D. and your wallet. Your school I.D. will get you into the classes and give you discounts at local places. Don’t forget your car keys, shades, and  phone, obviously. I bring gum because if I get bored I will start to zone out, so gum keeps me focused on the task.

For makeup, I keep it in a small bag that I got from Macy’s with a makeup bundle. I bring the basics. Just blush, lip gloss, lipstick, an eyeliner, and a translucent powder for touch-ups. Blotting papers are really important too. I keep these in my little blue pocket folder and they are Clean & Clear blotting papers that don’t mess up your makeup. A camera is also a necessity because as frustrating and boring that school can be at times, it will end and you are going to want to have snapped some good memories. And finally, my personal favorite, don’t forget a snack. Those late night study sessions are worthless if your growling stomach is distracting you. I usually grab some crackers or roasted almonds for a quick bite.

For tips for success, don’t get carried away. Go to the football games, paint your face, attend all the events to make it memorable, just don’t forget about your work. Either you or your guardians is paying for your schooling, so don’t mess it up because you wanted to see the basketball game. Creating a routine and finding out how you study is key before you start school. Show interest and talk often in class and to one another. I know it can be hard. I was the shy one, too. But you aren’t going to be fun if your only friend on campus is your roommate. Stay humble, work hard, laugh a lot, and enjoy your experience. And yes, these guys go to my school.

Weekly Fashion Update~ Back-To-School Shopping Guide!

Unfortunately, for all students every where the clock is ticking until school starts in the fall. This means fighting back the crowds of people at malls and in cramped stores. The biggest tip I can give someone going back-to-school shopping is have a list in mind of the styles you want to abide by this fall. That way you won’t be persuaded to buy something you don’t need or won’t wear. The best knowledge to have is what trends you like, what your dress code is, and if you can picture yourself proudly wearing it. I am in college so I don’t have a dress code, but I still do like to look cute for school. Putting on that cute outfit every morning will help you stay positive and boost your confidence. Let’s begin!

Maxi skirts are still flying off the shelves every where. Recently, I bought one for only 5 dollars from Charlotte Russee and it is a spandex cotton blend and probably the most comfortable thing I’ve ever worn. Maxi dresses, with a cute top, and comfy sandals are an easy way to seem dressed up. You can accompany it with a crop top, denim jacket, over-sized top, or an adorable tank.

Chiffon tops and blouses are probably one of the easiest types of clothing to wear. They literally go with anything. From fancy slacks for a meeting to light-colored jeans for study hall. Buying these tops in solid colors make them easy closet staples. H&M and Forever 21 have some of the best selection of chiffon tops.

Circle skirts and crop tops are the next fashion pieces. Circle skirts are much like skater skirts, but aren’t as pleated. Circle skirts are high waisted which is perfect with a crop top so that your mid-drift isn’t hanging out. Crop tops can also be paired with high-waisted jeans or pants for more coverage. If you don’t like getting all dressed up for school but still want to look cute, try a cotton-spandex blend circle skirt and a solid or printed cotton crop top (much like the blue skirt look above).

Military green is also a hot item for fall. Military green jackets and pants look amazing paired with a printed top. Strap on a pair of combat boots and you are ready for battle! These pieces add a punk flare without going overboard. The thickness of a military jacket will keep you warm all winter. Just sew on your favorite embellishments or patches and make it unique.

Over-sized cardigans and sweaters are perfect for the upcoming school year. Knit has been especially popular lately. In order to make it seem like you are not getting swallowed into the sweater or cardigan, keep it simple. Wear solid colors and big printed cardigan. Or, when it’s cold, wear your favorite knit sweater with leggings or tights and cute calf-length combat boots.

Backpacks can be fashionable too! You especially want a cute backpack if you are going to be lugging it around for a whole semester or school year. The latest backpack trends are pull-overs with leather zippers or buckles and a printed design. Lace and crochet have also graced the best of backpacks. When choosing one, go for a look that fits your personality and style.

The Most Flattering Hair Part For Your Face Shape!

One of the easiest ways to change your look is switching how you part your hair. While many of us find a natural part and stick with it for years, have you ever wondered if that style is really the most flattering for your face-shape? Experimenting with a fresh comb-created angle will give you a chance to find the ideal balance to highlight your features. But the best part? It’s an instantly gratifying transformation. Let’s begin!

Heart-shaped faces tend to be wider in the cheeks. A middle part complements this shape, but only if you have long hair. If you have short hair or too many layers around the face, it can have the reverse effect.  That’s because the cropped fringe will bring the focus to the wider area of your face. A side part will also work by allowing hair to covering the larger forehead and cheek area and make the face look thinner.

For circle shaped faces, use a deep side part to showcase your strongest side. Don’t know which side is your best? Use a blank piece of paper to cover half of you face while looking in a mirror. Then switch sides. Whichever half you prefer the most wins! Round faces need a curtain of hair to lengthen the shape and balance the features.

Square faces should enhance a deep side part that will soften the forehead and jaw line.  The long layers create a rounded oval by falling diagonally across the face and hiding harsher angles. The ideal place to start your deep part is directly above the arch in your eyebrows.

People with oval faces have it the easiest! They can pull off any part, any side, any way, on any style.  So why not try them all? Experiment with sides and angles for a mini makeover each day! Or try creating a youthful zigzag part.

Time Saving Makeup & Fashion Tricks!

You’re in a deep and luxurious sleep when, suddenly the radio is blasting. It’s time to wake up to get ready for work. Persistently, you just press the snooze for 5 more minutes of heaven. Which, unfortunately, turns into 30 minutes and next thing you know, you’re running late. We have all been there. Rushing into the bathroom while trying to put mascara on, zip up your pants, and eat some oatmeal before it’s time to sprint out the door. Thankfully, I have perfected these steps for all of you who aren’t early birds. This tutorial contains helpful tips and tricks to cut your getting ready time in half. Let’s begin!

To quickly get ready in the morning you must prepare at night. This means that taking a shower at night will take 15-25 minutes out of your schedule in the mornings. If you don’t want to wash your hair, then just pull a shower cap over your hair. In the morning, you can just wash your face and your body will still be clean.

Depending on how your hair dries, you might want to style it at night. My hair is naturally curly and I know I won’t have time to straighten it in the morning so I straighten it before bed. To ensure it stays straight all night, I use CHI Straight Guard after straightening. When I wake up in the morning it might have some waves, and that only takes 5 minutes thanks to my prepping. Putting your damp hair into a side braid before bed will give you beachy waves in the morning when you take the braid out.

In the morning, just wake up, wash your face, moisturize, then jump right into concealer. Skipping the foundation will alleviate about 5 minutes. If you don’t want to blend the concealer, then just apply a BB cream to your whole face. Apply a pressed powder for more coverage over the concealer or BB cream. Using an angled brush when applying a light pink blush or light bronzer will make the application quicker. Just swipe across the cheekbones and move onto the eyes. Using a liquid liner, sweep it across the lash line and make an even wing. Instead of dealing with all of the mascara, just curling the eyelashes will give it a voluminous look and only take 15 seconds. For the lips, use a tinted lip balm or a deep pink lip stain is the best. Putting color on the lips and the winged liner makes it look like you spent a lot of time on your makeup.

Pencil skirt

For a quick go-to outfit, I usually grab colored pants, neutral sandals, and a cotton top. Grab a bubble necklace , a few rings, and sprint to the kitchen. For a more work formal look, I throw on a long pencil skirt with a layered top and black pumps. Thank you to Fashiony.ru for the gorgeous example above.

Breakfast in the most important meal of the day because it gets those brain juices flowing. For a grab on the go, I usually pick a granola or protein bar and a refrigerated Starbucks Mocha Frappuccino. This whole process takes about 20-30 minutes or less.
