Ulta 14 Piece Gift Review!

Ulta is offering a free gift of this completely filled makeup bag with a purchase of $19.50 or more of Ulta beauty products. I bought a Kabuki brush to replace my broken powder brush and a liquid liner pen that equated $19.99. Getting right on the $19.50 mark takes talent, but I tried as hard as I could to get the bargain. Within 5 days my package came and included this makeup bag that was filled with 14 makeup items. The bag was avilable in a turquoise-blue and hot pink. I would assume the products in both bags would be the same colors, but this bag had more neutral-pink toned colors. Let’s begin!

First off, it comes with 3 quads of eyeshadow. The quad on the left is called Chic and contains 4 shimmer colors. The middle one is named Dramatic with 3 shimmer and one matte grey color. The last one is named Classic and is broken! I used this shimmery quad once and tried to put the complicated packaging back together and now the top won’t come off. The color pay off is pretty potent, but I was expecting more mattes just because I feel like they’re cheaper to just put into a quad.

Next are cosmetic brushes! I was really happy that Ulta counted this set of brushes as one product from the 14 piece kit and not individual. The first brush on the left is an eyeshadow brush and is great for blending out the crease. The middle brush says sponge tip brush and I always get these brushes, yet never use them. Every now and again I will use it to get large amounts of a cheap shadow out. I know it can be used to make ombre nail designs as well. The blush brush on the far right is pretty good, somewhat small compared to my typical blush brush. It does apply a lot of product at once!

This teeny tiny nail polish is the next product in the bag. It is in the color Fuchsiamania and the color basin is about the size of a quarter. The color matches the bag, going along with the pink theme. It has decent nail coverage; not as amazing as an Essie or O-P-I. It takes two coats to have full coverage and is a shiny solution.

This blush is crazy sparkly and is named Sweet Cheeks. The color is fairly sheen except for the sparkle. If you apply enough it has a peach tint. I found that it went on better with the supplied blush brush as opposed to one of my fluffy brushes. The color payoff doesn’t really excite me, but I might combine it with some other brushes to add more shimmer.

Next is the Voluptuous Volume mascara in Jet Black. I really love this mascara! This is probably one of my favorite products from the bunch. The mascara pieces out your eye lashes and fans them out. It builds up easily and doesn’t smudge off the lower lashes. Smudging is always a big no-no for me because my lower lashes have a tendency of rubbing off onto my under eyes with bad mascara.

When I saw there was eyeliner included, I was overjoyed because I ran out of my everyday liner. I typically stick with retractable liners because they smudge easier and don’t have to be sharpened. This pencils are pretty good, though. One side is black and the other is deep brown.

The next product is Super Shiny Lip Gloss in Illusion. This lip gloss matches the blush which matches the lip butter included. I never was a huge fan of lip gloss because of bad sticky experiences, but this one is not a super sticky consistency. It doesn’t have a smell and is a little shimmery.

This product was another one where it is smaller than it should be. It kinda feels like it is half full… Nevertheless, it is a decent primer and helps my makeup go on easier. It reminds me of my Neutrogena Shine Control Primer and has nearly the same packaging. It only has enough primer for a month of faces, maybe.

The final product is the Super Shiny Lip Butter in Vienna and I previously wrote about this in my last post.  I ADORE this lip butter so much! It doesn’t dry me out, has a light pink/nude with gold flecked color, and is so creamy. I will definitely keep Ulta lip butters in mind when searching for a new lipstick. This lip butter is easy to just slip on any day and works every time.

Overall, these products are fairly decent. If you are new to makeup or have a minimal collection, I would say get this because all the products are supposed to work together and create one main look. If you are experienced and have a large collection of makeup, I would have to say skip it. Unless you need something worth $19.50 from Ulta, I wouldn’t intentionally buy this. The products are good and some are great, but I just feel like it is a collection that half of it might not even get used that often…

Product Battles: NARS Blush vs. NYX Blush!

NARS Orgasm is one of the company’s best selling blush. So successful that NARS created a line based off of Orgasm. Blush should be applied to the apples of the cheeks with either an angled brush or a thick powder brush. Soon after Orgasm, NYX released Pinched which is nearly the same color, but a fraction of the price. This will find out which blush is worth the money. Let’s begin!

NYX Pinched is a gorgeous pink color with light flecks of shimmer. It is sold in a medium size container and costs $5.00. To get this color I didn’t have to apply much to my finger. The color is a light pink and the shimmer isn’t too noticeable on the skin. I went to my local drugstore to buy this product and was applied with an angled blush brush.

The NARS blush in Orgasm has shimmery pink tone. It is very similar, if not exactly the same to the NYX Pinched blush. This blush is $29.00 and a bit larger than the NYX blush. This casing comes with a mirror and is a compact case. NARS came out on my skin having more shimmer than the NYX. The blush also didn’t seem as pink, but if built-up would have a more pink color. To buy this product  you would have to drive to the mall or your local Sephora. I already had it so I didn’t have to drive there this time.

The winning product is… NYX Pinched! The color was more potent, not overwhelmed with shimmer, and beyond cheaper. Paying $29.00 for blush isn’t really worth it to me when there is a dupe for $5.00 that is even better. NYX Pinched can be purchased at your local drugstore and is well worth it!

G.N.O + Clubbing Makeup!

G.N.O, known as Girls Night Out, is what many women desire for at the beginning of each week. It’s that one night of freedom where you can just let your hair down with all your closest friends. Most ladies enjoy anything from a lovely dinner with a side of late-night karaoke to the pulsing clubs. Whichever you love, this tutorial will have 3 looks. From a hardcore clubbing look, to a gentle movie night look. Each one will have a different tweak, but use similar products. Let’s begin!

The first look will be a dramatic clubbing look.  I wouldn’t recommend wearing this to a simple dinner because it is very climatic look. To start, I will apply a good primer. This primer needs to be able to truly keep the foundation together because the club will be hot and you don’t want your face melting off. I am apply Mac Prep + Prime to my face and Urban Decay Eyeshadow Potion to my eyelids. Next, I will take my Revlon Colorstay Foundation and apply it with either a foundation brush or a makeup wedge. Sometimes I like to use a makeup wedge to apply because the brush can shelter bacteria, but it does blend better. I usually let my foundation dry on my face before applying Revlon PhotoReady Concealer. This gets blended in my under-eye area and on any red spots. Now time for the eyes! I apply Revlon Illuminance Creme Shadow on  my lid. I know, so much Revlon! Only apply this on the lid, not in the crease. The NYX Single Eyeshadow in Black should be blended into the crease and sweep down into the inner eye area. With a liner brush, apply the same black shadow to the lower lid line. Use a thick black liner pencil to thicken the lower lash line. Applying eyelashes with this look would be kind of pointless because the eye makeup is so dark, so instead I just use Maybelline Volum’ Express mascara. To brighten up the face, sweep Physicians Formula Mood Boosting blush with an angled blush brush. Since the makeup is so harsh, a nude lipstick would compliment the best. I applied NYX Black Label Lipstick in Nude on my lips. Spritz Mac Setting Spray all over your face to ensure everything doesn’t drip off mid-dance.

For the second look, I decided to go with a less dramatic look. This look could still be worn to the club, but isn’t as drastic. For the face, I would recommend doing the same process above. It will guarantee that everything stays in place and doesn’t glide or slide off your lids or face. I next use the Lorac Pro Palette and use the shimmery white color with a small shadow brush to highlight the inner corners of the eyes. If you don’t have this palette then you can just use any white shimmery color. Using the L’Oreal Paris Extra Intense Eyeliner make a wing that extends into the crease. Take a blending eye shadow brush and blend it inward toward the eye and deeper into the crease. Using Milani Eyeshadow in Tickled Pink, gently pat this on the lid. This color is so subtle that the pink doesn’t stand out, but is noticeable. I wore  fake lashes for this look because it is a lighter look so the longer lashes help emphasize the sassiness. Maybelline Vivids Lipstick in Fuchsia Flash will be swiped across my lips and since the lips are so pink I would recommend applying a bronzer rather than a blush.

The final look is the least dramatic of all. This makeup look could be worn to a restaurant or the movies. For the face, you don’t need as thick and heavy of a primer and foundation combo. A simple BB cream and mineral powder will do the trick for a gentle full coverage. For the eyes, I would still prime those bad boys. Using the same Lorac Pro Palette in the color Nude, pat this all over the lid, inner corner of the eye, and into 1/4 the lower lash line before the lash growth begins. Using an Urban Decay 24/7 Blue Eyeliner blend it from where the shadow on the lash line begins. It will blend together from a turquoise into the blue liner. Line your waterline with the Black Urban Decay 24/7 liner. Using a liquid liner, make a small line across the top lash line as a map of where the lashes will go. I recommend using Kiss eyelashes with this look and winging the liquid liner out after you apply them. With an angled blush brush, stroke Physicians Formula Mood Boosting Blush across the apples of your cheeks. For the lips, using a light pink lip gloss will compliment the shimmery eyes the best. And that’s it! 3 Girls Night Out looks that will surely make a statement. Have fun!
