Products I Regret Buying in the Fall!

Winter officially started on December 21st, ending a long and enjoyable fall. With every season that passes, more products are added to the list of products that robbed my cash. Most of these products can be bought from a drugstore, but a few are luxury. I typically scouer the internet for reviews on beauty products before I buy them, and these just didn’t cut the mustard. Let’s begin!

The first product is the Nude’ Tude palette by The Balm. This palette costs $36.00 and is known as a “luxury product”. With most luxury products you get what you paid for, but this product was so just so basic. Thankfully, I had a gift certificate so I didn’t have to spend full-price. This palette has 12 colors that go from light to dark. The colors included are highly pigmented, but they just don’t offer much. I would much rather pay a bit more for a Naked palette. The brush included is the typical grade makeup brush that accompanies palettes.

The next item is the Maybelline Big Eyes mascara. This product is an offspring from the Falsies collections and is double-ended for upper and lower lashes. I first saw the commercial for this and thought finally! My bottoms lashes are a lot smaller than my top and so it is difficult to apply with large brushes. Unfortunately, this formula smudges like crazy. I would be wearing the mascara for an hour and it would already be smudged down onto my eyelids. Eventually, I just couldn’t use the product anymore and cleaned off all the product on the brushes to use with other mascaras. The upper lash side made minimal volume. The only real steal was the bottom lash brush. This mascara costs $7.99.

The Garnier Skin Renew BB Cream is an unfortunate regret as well. This costs $12.99 and promises nutrients along with light, natural coverage. After a few uses I decided it was too much work. It did not set, it just sat on top of the skin. I do not have oily skin (quite the opposite) and it looked greasy. It needs powder to set. It does not provide much coverage and is not buildable. It will become orange and cakey looking. I also found the light shade was not light enough for my skin tone.

NYX has always been a great drugstore brand, but this gloss has got to go! This is the NYX Round Gloss and it costs around $3.00. This gloss has a good formula, yet smell like soap. Not the quality, fresh soap. The old, skin-drying soap smell. After a day of wearing it, my mouth started tasting the soap and I had to wipe it off. Old soap smell isn’t the most flattering of scents.

The final product I recieved as a sample, but was so bad it made it on the list. This is the Dove Smooth & Soft Anti-frizz Cream. Dove has started a new line of hair care items that are more than just the usual soap and shampoo. This is probably the worst anti-frizz cream I have ever used. I have naturally curly hair and with these curls comes along lots of frizz. Dove’s product made my un-frizzy hair heavy and greasy, while the frizz shows up within a half hour. Thankfully, I did not buy this product, but I have heard countless bad reviews from other beauties. Will definitely not be buying this!

Time Saving Makeup & Fashion Tricks!

You’re in a deep and luxurious sleep when, suddenly the radio is blasting. It’s time to wake up to get ready for work. Persistently, you just press the snooze for 5 more minutes of heaven. Which, unfortunately, turns into 30 minutes and next thing you know, you’re running late. We have all been there. Rushing into the bathroom while trying to put mascara on, zip up your pants, and eat some oatmeal before it’s time to sprint out the door. Thankfully, I have perfected these steps for all of you who aren’t early birds. This tutorial contains helpful tips and tricks to cut your getting ready time in half. Let’s begin!

To quickly get ready in the morning you must prepare at night. This means that taking a shower at night will take 15-25 minutes out of your schedule in the mornings. If you don’t want to wash your hair, then just pull a shower cap over your hair. In the morning, you can just wash your face and your body will still be clean.

Depending on how your hair dries, you might want to style it at night. My hair is naturally curly and I know I won’t have time to straighten it in the morning so I straighten it before bed. To ensure it stays straight all night, I use CHI Straight Guard after straightening. When I wake up in the morning it might have some waves, and that only takes 5 minutes thanks to my prepping. Putting your damp hair into a side braid before bed will give you beachy waves in the morning when you take the braid out.

In the morning, just wake up, wash your face, moisturize, then jump right into concealer. Skipping the foundation will alleviate about 5 minutes. If you don’t want to blend the concealer, then just apply a BB cream to your whole face. Apply a pressed powder for more coverage over the concealer or BB cream. Using an angled brush when applying a light pink blush or light bronzer will make the application quicker. Just swipe across the cheekbones and move onto the eyes. Using a liquid liner, sweep it across the lash line and make an even wing. Instead of dealing with all of the mascara, just curling the eyelashes will give it a voluminous look and only take 15 seconds. For the lips, use a tinted lip balm or a deep pink lip stain is the best. Putting color on the lips and the winged liner makes it look like you spent a lot of time on your makeup.

Pencil skirt

For a quick go-to outfit, I usually grab colored pants, neutral sandals, and a cotton top. Grab a bubble necklace , a few rings, and sprint to the kitchen. For a more work formal look, I throw on a long pencil skirt with a layered top and black pumps. Thank you to Fashiony.ru for the gorgeous example above.

Breakfast in the most important meal of the day because it gets those brain juices flowing. For a grab on the go, I usually pick a granola or protein bar and a refrigerated Starbucks Mocha Frappuccino. This whole process takes about 20-30 minutes or less.

Waterproof Makeup Tutorial!

Unfortunately, not all makeup can withstand the earth’s elements. We have all been there where you come out of the pool and mascara or that smokey eye is just oozing down your face. Thankfully, I have found this full face makeup look that can defend itself against water and sweat. This isn’t the best every day makeup, unless you come into contact daily with water. Let’s begin!

For a full-coverage foundation, I would recommend the Makeup For Ever Full Cover foundation. You could apply a primer under this foundation, but it is so waterproof it isn’t completely necessary. It can be a little pricey, but it has true full coverage and the lady at Sephora said this is the only absolute waterproof foundation. Apply this with a foundation brush and use Covergirl Clay concealer to cover up any redness and under-eyes. Using a clay concealer is a lot thicker than a liquid and will cling to your face better. If you don’t want a heavy foundation, then apply Physicians Formula BB cream for moderate coverage.

On the eyelids, I apply Maybelline Color Tattoo in the color Tough as Taupe. This cream eyeshadow is waterproof and is a shimmery gold that reflects the sun with your eyes making them looks brighter. If you prefer a more smokey look, go for the Revlon cream eye shadow palettes. They come with four sets of shadows and come in hundreds of color sets. For a pop of summery color, using a angled liner brush apply Tenacious Teal to the under eyelids. If you wanted a black winged liner instead, a gel liner swiped with an angled liner brush will do the trick.

The Colossal mascara by Maybelline is an amazing waterproof mascara. This mascara won’t come off for anything. Curl the lashes then apply even coats. Tip: Don’t apply mascara to bottom lashes because it could increase the risk of bottom lash line makeup dripping off in the water.

For blush, I sweep Dream Bouncy blush across my cheekbones for a natural flushed look. Dragging the blush up into the temples will give more structure to the face. Applying a light pink or coral lip stain is best because it won’t come off. And that’s it! You are now ready to jump into the ocean and ensure that your face will stay on all day.

G.N.O + Clubbing Makeup!

G.N.O, known as Girls Night Out, is what many women desire for at the beginning of each week. It’s that one night of freedom where you can just let your hair down with all your closest friends. Most ladies enjoy anything from a lovely dinner with a side of late-night karaoke to the pulsing clubs. Whichever you love, this tutorial will have 3 looks. From a hardcore clubbing look, to a gentle movie night look. Each one will have a different tweak, but use similar products. Let’s begin!

The first look will be a dramatic clubbing look.  I wouldn’t recommend wearing this to a simple dinner because it is very climatic look. To start, I will apply a good primer. This primer needs to be able to truly keep the foundation together because the club will be hot and you don’t want your face melting off. I am apply Mac Prep + Prime to my face and Urban Decay Eyeshadow Potion to my eyelids. Next, I will take my Revlon Colorstay Foundation and apply it with either a foundation brush or a makeup wedge. Sometimes I like to use a makeup wedge to apply because the brush can shelter bacteria, but it does blend better. I usually let my foundation dry on my face before applying Revlon PhotoReady Concealer. This gets blended in my under-eye area and on any red spots. Now time for the eyes! I apply Revlon Illuminance Creme Shadow on  my lid. I know, so much Revlon! Only apply this on the lid, not in the crease. The NYX Single Eyeshadow in Black should be blended into the crease and sweep down into the inner eye area. With a liner brush, apply the same black shadow to the lower lid line. Use a thick black liner pencil to thicken the lower lash line. Applying eyelashes with this look would be kind of pointless because the eye makeup is so dark, so instead I just use Maybelline Volum’ Express mascara. To brighten up the face, sweep Physicians Formula Mood Boosting blush with an angled blush brush. Since the makeup is so harsh, a nude lipstick would compliment the best. I applied NYX Black Label Lipstick in Nude on my lips. Spritz Mac Setting Spray all over your face to ensure everything doesn’t drip off mid-dance.

For the second look, I decided to go with a less dramatic look. This look could still be worn to the club, but isn’t as drastic. For the face, I would recommend doing the same process above. It will guarantee that everything stays in place and doesn’t glide or slide off your lids or face. I next use the Lorac Pro Palette and use the shimmery white color with a small shadow brush to highlight the inner corners of the eyes. If you don’t have this palette then you can just use any white shimmery color. Using the L’Oreal Paris Extra Intense Eyeliner make a wing that extends into the crease. Take a blending eye shadow brush and blend it inward toward the eye and deeper into the crease. Using Milani Eyeshadow in Tickled Pink, gently pat this on the lid. This color is so subtle that the pink doesn’t stand out, but is noticeable. I wore  fake lashes for this look because it is a lighter look so the longer lashes help emphasize the sassiness. Maybelline Vivids Lipstick in Fuchsia Flash will be swiped across my lips and since the lips are so pink I would recommend applying a bronzer rather than a blush.

The final look is the least dramatic of all. This makeup look could be worn to a restaurant or the movies. For the face, you don’t need as thick and heavy of a primer and foundation combo. A simple BB cream and mineral powder will do the trick for a gentle full coverage. For the eyes, I would still prime those bad boys. Using the same Lorac Pro Palette in the color Nude, pat this all over the lid, inner corner of the eye, and into 1/4 the lower lash line before the lash growth begins. Using an Urban Decay 24/7 Blue Eyeliner blend it from where the shadow on the lash line begins. It will blend together from a turquoise into the blue liner. Line your waterline with the Black Urban Decay 24/7 liner. Using a liquid liner, make a small line across the top lash line as a map of where the lashes will go. I recommend using Kiss eyelashes with this look and winging the liquid liner out after you apply them. With an angled blush brush, stroke Physicians Formula Mood Boosting Blush across the apples of your cheeks. For the lips, using a light pink lip gloss will compliment the shimmery eyes the best. And that’s it! 3 Girls Night Out looks that will surely make a statement. Have fun!
