The Right Bag for Your Body Type!

When it comes to shopping  for a dress, we know that peplum styles complements petite bodies, and tea party-lengths flatter tall frames — so why shouldn’t we consider the effect our handbags have on our figures? “Your signature style bag can balance out your frame with its shape,” says Cassandra Connors, Founder and Director, Bella Bag. “Tall, petite, curvy … a handbag can act as major accent to your body type.” To that same effect, the wrong structure can overwhelm or underwhelm your silhouette. Connors suggests wearing a bag that is the opposite shape of your body. “It usually provides a fashionable balance,” she explains. Let’s begin!

For curvy women, a structured bag will provide great, sharp lines to coordinate with a curvy body. Structured bags are created by nearly all designers and are a very hot item.

For petites figures, an over-sized bag will balance a smaller frame. Try a mid-hanging hobo that comes right to the elbow. Avoid cross-body or sling bags, as they can make a petite figure appear smaller.

Tall women should use a tote bag  because it accentuates long, lean arms. Choose one with a rounded shape or shimmering textures to give some contrast to a tall and, possibly straight, shape.

For evening pear-shaped bodies, I suggest a clutch — a giant envelope or a small pochette. Carrying a bag in hand will consistently bring the attention up and away from your hips. Avoid clutches that hang too low and add extra bulk below the waist.

Skinny or thin girls should look into Cross-body bags. They are perfect for thin types because it doesn’t matter that they will add a little bit of extra bulk around the hips or thighs.
